Got a new virus on the workbench. Customer made a valiant effort to remove it himself (careful, some folks have done more harm than good) and ran a bunch of scanners that I'd normally run. Brought it in and there's something to be said for having seen what normally runs on a PC a million times -- a few filenames stood out right away. Must be a brand new infection because he's got one of the better antiviruses AND a realtime antimalware. Just goes to show that there is no perfect protection and you're never completely safe.
In this case, the virus was one that redirected his webpages and played audio ads in the background. Could have been worse.
