I'm not a gadget fanatic but I do have a cell phone and a smartwatch and have to charge both generally overnight. The idea of having my household router maintain the charge on my devices gives me happy techy shivers.
The team has already tested this out with temperature sensors, a camera, and rechargeable batteries, powering all from ranges of 20 feet, 17 feet, and 28 feet, respectively.
And the above is limited by an FCC 1-watt restriction so that might relax over time.
Wifi is already all around us so harnessing it like this would be a fantastic boon.
